Mobile phones have carved out a huge space for themselves in the mammoth electronic market of UK. One mobile is being churned out after another; mobiles that are technologically superior and boast of awe-inspiring design and looks. How exactly do you judge the superiority of one over the other is something which needs pondering upon. There are various award ceremonies in UK though, that actually award mobile phones under various categories, based on their popularity, looks and performance.

One such award ceremony is organised by Pocket-lint and is known to be one of the longest running gadget awards in the UK with a total of 25 categories including the coveted Best Gadget of the Year 2007. The nominations include the real gem of handsets that have been bestsellers in the year 2007 under various categories. Nokia N95, a phone boasting of a dual slider, GPS navigation, plus a 5 MP camera which is better than a stand alone digital camera, is one phone which features in the nomination under varied categories. Nokia N95 has undisputedly been a bestseller handset in the current year and its popularity is not expected to witness any dip in the next one as well.

Samsung G600 is the other nomination. A 5 Megapixel Camera with Flash and Auto Focus, 2.2 Inch TFT 16 Million Colour Screen, a music player, Quad Band and EDGE technology are enough features to make this superb gadget find a place in the best gadget award nominations for 2007. Other handsets that form a part of the nomination list include LG Viewty, Sony Ericsson W880, Motorola Z8 et al.

The awards are judged and voted by a panel of leading gadget journalists, including the staff from the Pocket-lint team. This team is to decide the gadgets that everyone should be proud to own in 2007 as the decisions are not based on the sales factor or the ‘wow’ factor alone. The consumers can seriously consider buying the nominated and more so the winning handsets as gifts for themselves or others this festive season.

Winners will be announced at an Awards evening in London in November.
